Frequently asked questions.

Where will my fundraising proceeds go?

When you donate to the Alberta Cancer Foundation’s More Hope Movement, you ensure every Albertan facing cancer has the support they need and the treatment they deserve, now and into the future.

Yes, please share your event with your friends, family, neighbours and colleagues! Tag us on social media (@albertacancer), and we will reshare your stories. We encourage reaching out to local media outlets to share your story as well. It is always best to come from you.

Yes, however, we strongly encourage creating a personalized event website. This will ensure that people who can’t attend your event can still donate. It also gives you a space where you can share your story and tell others what inspired you to host your event. All offline funds should be submitted within 45 days of the event.

Any monetary donations made towards a fundraising event will receive a tax receipt. If there is a benefit (receiving an item, logo recognition, auction item, etc.), no receipt can be issued.

If you are planning to raise over $10,000 in raffle revenue, we can host an online raffle for you with certain guidelines. If you plan to host a prize draw under that amount, a winner cannot be chosen at random, and a skill testing component is needed by either including a four-part math question, a knowledge test (ex. who the new Calgary Cancer Centre is named after?), or a jellybean count. We do not host any 50/50 raffles.

Yes! Having multiple people skilled in different areas gives you more time to focus on fundraising for your event. A group of family or friends is sufficient, or others equally passionate about the cause. It is not essential but recommended to raise even more money.

We are here to support you with promotional materials and are happy to provide guidance, especially with Canadian Revenue Agency. We currently do not have the resources to plan community or partnership events at this time.

You can use any sales, auction, registration or sponsors as they are non-receiptable. The funds that are remaining can be sent to our head office by cheque with a breakdown indicating how funds were raised. Donations must come straight to the Foundation for proper receipting.

It is important that you thank your donors directly. They are supporting you as well as a cause that is important to you, and this is a great way to connect with them. If you need extra guidance, we are happy to review the thank you message.

We have a variety of promotional materials, Leap Magazines, and branded collateral available for use at your event. Please inquire at least one month prior to your event.

For straight donations, we recommend that donors use your personalized event webpage. For all other proceeds, please send to:

Alberta Cancer Foundation
Attn: Donor Services
10123 99 St NW #710, Edmonton, AB T5J 3H1

  • Please include the event name in the cheque memo, as well as if it’s a donation, sales, etc.
