Our volunteers play a vital role in creating more moments for Albertans facing cancer. This month we would like to recognize Nadia Al-Amoudi, for her commitment to our organization.
Nadia volunteers as a Community Relations Assistant, where she works with the Community Relations team to provide support with event advertising, donor acknowledgment and various administrative tasks.
“Nadia has been an amazing part of our volunteer team. She demonstrates diligence in her work and is compassionate towards the Foundation’s work. She demonstrated our core values so well,” says Farahnaz Hasan Ali, a Development Officer and one of Nadia’s supervisors.
Nadia chose to volunteer at the Alberta Cancer Foundation for many reasons, one of them being how she has been personally impacted by cancer.
“A sense of responsibility to give back sparked not too long after my treatment. Many Albertans’ lives would not have been the way it is had it not been for the continuous efforts of donors, researchers, and partners of the Alberta Cancer Foundation. My desire for a cancer-free future is what drives me to maintain a strong and lasting relationship with a foundation that continues to raise awareness and funds for cancer research and treatments,” says Nadia.
Since she started in January 2021, Nadia has been instrumental in maintaining and building relationships with our supporters in the community, such as schools across Alberta. Nadia reached out to elementary schools, high schools, and universities in Alberta to introduce the Alberta Cancer Foundation and fundraising opportunities for the schools. She helped spread the word about our signature fundraising event, the Albertans Helping Albertans 5k, a province-wide fundraiser where Albertans can walk or run 5 km in support of their local cancer centre. By personally contacting schools, she showed how they could get involved and this brought in a lot of interest to participate in our event and plan future fundraising events of their own.
Nadia also assists with our stewardship by writing personalized thank you cards to our donors and fundraisers.
“Nadia is efficient, hardworking, and flexible. No task is too big or too small for her and I truly appreciate this. When another team member needs support, she is open to volunteering with them as well. She is great support for our team,” says Farahnaz.
One of Nadia’s favourite aspects of her volunteer work is being a part of a community that dedicated its time to make a long-lasting impact in cancer patient’s lives. “Volunteering here, I have been encouraged to ask questions and be curious. I have discovered more about the cause that I support which further fuels my commitment,” says Nadia.
When asked what her favourite place to visit is in Alberta, Nadia appreciates the prairies and the mountains, and all else that this province has to offer but if she had to pick a favourite it would be Lake Lousie in Banff, Alberta.
“I must say, there is nothing more calming than being out on the water of Lake Louise. I truly think that being at Lake Louise is the best way to experience the beauty of Alberta,” says Nadia.
Volunteers like Nadia make it possible for the foundation to support Albertans facing cancer. We are grateful to her and our group of dedicated volunteers for their passion and commitment.
