Our volunteers play an essential role in creating more moments for Albertans facing cancer. By offering their professional skills and talents, the Alberta Cancer Foundation is able to invest more time into our vision of a cancer-free future. We are so grateful for the commitment and support of our wonderful volunteers. This month we would like to recognize Victoria Riehl-Tonn, for her hard work and dedication at the foundation.

Victoria’s role with the foundation began in June 2020. For just over a year, she has provided support at organized events and with donor acknowledgement. She has supported stewardship by making thank-you calls on behalf of the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Most recently, Victoria made 162 thank you calls to donors who gave a gift on World Cancer Day in support of Albertans facing cancer.

“Victoria has been volunteering with Stewardship for over a year, and she is great in her role and always ready to pick up the phone and call donors,” says Victoria Ross, Community Relations Coordinator, Community Relations at the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

Coming from a healthcare background and having loved ones personally affected by cancer, Victoria was inspired to give back to the community that impacts so many.

Victoria Riehl-Tonn came across this volunteer opportunity during the pandemic and instantly knew that she wanted to be a  part of the fantastic team and make a difference. One of the many highlights Victoria has experienced at the foundation is meeting and working with the team.

The team at the Alberta Cancer Foundation are amazing, supportive, and incredibly welcoming, “says Victoria. “They make a world of difference and have made my volunteering experience exceptional.”

Throughout her volunteer experience, Victoria learned the value of establishing and maintaining relationships with donors. By connecting with donors, she has gotten the opportunity to hear their meaningful and impactful stories, learning more about what motivates them to contribute. Through Covid-19, Victoria saw the value of donors and creating long-lasting relationships and connections with them. “Donors are an essential component in the functioning and success of the Alberta Cancer Foundation, and they truly inspire the work that I do,” says Victoria.

As a dedicated and incredibly valued volunteer, Victoria is always ready to take on calls and commonly receives lots of great feedback from our donors. “Stewardship is grateful for Victoria’s commitment and professionalism,” says Victoria Riehl-Tonn.

When asked where her favourite place in Alberta is, Victoria exclaimed her love for Alberta’s abundantly gorgeous lakes and beautiful expansive terrain. When she has the time, she loves to visit Banff and Kananaskis country, where she has so many great memories.
