Open - 2017 Mickleborough Research Program Letter of Intent

Competition Deadline: August 31, 2017

Every day, 43 Albertans hear the words, “you have cancer” and every day we hear from donors who want to do something more about this disease – make more progress, save more lives.

One way we can propel discovery is by creating an environment for collaboration – bringing science, patients and care together in a new and innovative way.

The Alberta Cancer Foundation is collaborating with the Institute for Reconstructive Sciences in Medicine (iRSM) to invite the Alberta research community to submit ideas for an investment opportunity in the Mickleborough Interfacial Bioscience Research Program. The goal of the Program is to invest in excellent and transformative research that has the potential to substantially impact treatment for patients with defects of the head and neck by focusing in one of the following:

  • Treatment Combination
  • Rehabilitation
  • Personalized Treatment

The Program should be based on research that contributes to breakthroughs, discovery research or momentum in one or more of the three head and neck cancer themes (described in the Letter of Intent document) with a clear indication of potential patient impact.

  • The research approach should be: transformative (accelerates or revolutionizes existing research efforts and strengths); innovative (using novel ideas or approaches); catalytic (initiating or accelerating scientific research into practice).
  • The idea is expected to lead to improved outcomes in patients with cancer-associated defects of the head and neck region through new understandings, directions or breakthroughs in quality of life.

The Alberta Cancer Foundation is seeking to invest in Programs from highly qualified individuals who are actively involved and committed to the Program and who hold an academic appointment at an Alberta university and whose research program is directly tied to the patients and/or the programs at the Institute for Reconstructive Sciences in Medicine.
