Counselling Goes to the Dogs

labradoodle

Offered through the Department of Psychosocial Resources at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary, the program enables the Labradoodle to comfort youth (nine to 19 years old) who are coping with their parents’ cancer diagnosis or treatment. Tallulah freely interacts with them as they share their stories in a group environment.

The program has run for more than 20 years, but this is the first time a dog has become a member of the team. The after-school program is provided free by the Department of Psychosocial Resources with support from the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
