Although women aged 50 – 69 years should be screened for breast cancer every two years, only 71 per cent of Alberta women actually get screened.

One in eight women in Alberta will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and 80 per cent of women with breast cancer have no family history of the disease. Screening using mammograms is the best way to detect breast cancer early – when treatment may be most effective.
