Investing in Foundational Infrastructure


The Alberta Cancer Foundation is pleased to invite members of the Alberta cancer research community to identify specific opportunities that could be further developed as Foundational Infrastructure.

The goal of the Alberta Cancer Foundation is to invest in excellent, state-of-the art Foundational Infrastructure that will enable cancer research excellence and strengthen capacity. Foundational Infrastructure will provide Alberta with a leading-edge advantage and ultimately impact cancer control for Albertans.

In particular, the Foundation is committed to making investments in infrastructure that will:

  • Benefit a broad range of cancer research and cancer researchers
  • Enhance existing infrastructure to optimize overall investment
  • Strengthen and/or accelerate the translation of research into practice
  • Increase the competitiveness of Alberta’s cancer research community


Individuals interested in identifying an opportunity must submit an Alberta Cancer Foundation Foundational Infrastructure Proposal by June 14, 2013.

The Guide to Foundational Infrastructure provides full details of Foundational Infrastructure including the eligibility, parameters and expectations. The Foundational Infrastructure – Investment Process summarizes the process of how Foundational Infrastructure will be selected for investment.

Investing in Transformative Programs



The Alberta Cancer Foundation is pleased to invite members of the Alberta cancer research community to identify specific opportunities that could be further developed as Transformative Programs.

The goal of the Alberta Cancer Foundation is to invest in programs conducting excellent and transformative research that accelerate translation of the knowledge and scientific evidence gained into the Alberta health system to improve outcomes.

Outcomes can include:

  • Improved understanding of cancer risk factors
  • Earlier diagnosis
  • Improved interventions and treatments
  • Improved quality of life during treatment and after care
  • Reductions in the recurrence of cancer


Individuals interested in identifying an opportunity must submit an Alberta Cancer Foundation Transformative Programs Registration Form by April 12, 2013 and a completed Alberta Cancer Foundation Transformative Programs Call for Ideas Application Form by May 31, 2013
