Ways to Give / Legacy Giving / Gift in will

For advisors and lawyers.

Thank you for helping leave a lasting impact for Albertans facing cancer.

Please see below for details our advisor and lawyer friends often ask for.

If you’re thinking about leaving a gift in your will to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, we know that you will probably have some questions. We have shared some of the most commonly asked questions, but we know that every gift is as unique as the individual giving it. If you can’t find the answer to your question or would like to speak with us directly, please reach out, as we would be pleased to speak with you.

Yes. We know a key motivator for advancing treatment and care is rooted in a deep affiliation with experience at the local centre. The Alberta Cancer Foundation is honoured to be the funding partners of these world-class facilities and grateful to accept legacy gifts to advance their work. To designate your client’s gift to one of these centres, we recommend this wording:

Arthur J. E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Calgary:

Yes, donors may specify the use of their gift.  However, cancer research and care is fast-paced and ever evolving and we want to be sure their wishes are captured correctly to be put to be put to use. Please contact us to discuss specific details for your client.

With designated gifts, we also recommend including a Power to Vary statement in the will to ensure that if the intended designation is not possible at the time the gift is received, we will still be able to make an impact in a way that closely aligns with the original intent. Our recommended Power to Vary statement is as follows:

In the event that circumstances make the specified use of this gift no longer practical or desirable, the Board of Trustees of the Alberta Cancer Foundation are hereby authorized to make changes in its use in keeping as far as possible with the spirit and general intent of the gift.

Every person who leaves a gift in their will wants to make an impact, and it’s my honour to see those intentions through.

It’s exciting when I get the chance to see donor impact in action, like the breakthroughs in immunotherapy taking place in Alberta right now. If a gift in your will feels like it might be the right choice for you, or if you’d just like more information, please reach out anytime.
