Cancer survivor and advocate brings lived experience and leadership to the role.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Max Chan as chair of the Alberta Cancer Foundation’s Board of Trustees. A long-time advocate for cancer care and research, Max brings both senior executive experience and a deeply personal connection to our mission.

Max ChanMax is the Senior Vice President, Operations and Engineering for Liquids Pipelines at Enbridge Inc. He previously held other leadership roles with Enbridge, including Senior Vice President and Corporate Development Officer and Vice President, Treasury and Enterprise Risk. He has served on the Alberta Cancer Foundation Board of Trustees for several years, most recently as the Finance and Audit Committee chair.

In 2020, Max was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer). Thanks to early detection and excellent care, he is now cancer-free. Since his recovery, Max has become an active voice in support of Albertans facing cancer and their families, and for the past three years has been an active participant and top fundraiser in the Enbridge Tour Alberta for Cancer.

“Max knows firsthand how critical access to the very best treatment and care can be,” says Wendy Beauchesne, Alberta Cancer Foundation CEO. “He brings that insight to the work we do, and we’re honoured to have his leadership at the Board table.”

“I’m incredibly grateful for the care I received during my own cancer journey, and I know how much that support means to patients and families across the province,” says Max Chan. “It’s an honour to take on this role and help advance the Alberta Cancer Foundation’s mission to improve cancer care and outcomes for all Albertans. I look forward to working with the Board and Foundation team to make a meaningful impact.”

We also want to extend our sincere thanks to Tom Valentine, who served as Interim Board Chair over the past several months. Tom will continue to serve on the Alberta Cancer Foundation Board as Interim Vice Chair.

As Board Chair, Max will help guide strategic direction and ensure strong governance as we continue working to improve cancer care across Alberta.
