Colin Dalziel, a stage four patient, joins 1,700 cyclists as the Tour raises more than $9.3 million for critical cancer care.

Strathmore, AB – In July 2024, Colin Dalziel was an active dad, busy with work and a young family. Today, he’s living with stage four cancer and facing each moment with a powerful drive to bring more hope to every Albertan impacted by cancer. This weekend, Dalziel is sharing his story as he helps kick off the Enbridge Tour Alberta for Cancer, joining over 1,700 cyclists in one of Canada’s most impactful fundraising events.
“One moment I was juggling work, raising kids, and climbing mountains in my free time. The next, I was lying in a hospital bed, surrounded by machines and uncertainty,” says Dalziel. “That’s why I’m here at the Tour – to make sure that for every Albertan facing a cancer journey, there’s more hope, more research, and more solutions.”
This year’s Tour has raised more than $9.3 million (and counting), bringing hope to the more than 24,000 Albertans who are told they have cancer each year.
Funds raised through the event are directly invested in leading-edge cancer research – including groundbreaking clinical trials – alongside crucial patient support programs and enhanced care delivered across Alberta’s 17 cancer centres. This essential support directly benefits the one in two Albertans who will receive a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime.
“This Tour is a celebration of life with a message that no matter how difficult the journey may be, you are not alone,” says Wendy Beauchesne, CEO of the Alberta Cancer Foundation. “I am so grateful for all our riders and volunteers that show what’s possible when our community stands united.”
Throughout the two-day event, cyclists will journey either 65 or 100 kilometers a day through Alberta’s scenic countryside. The Tour is a meaningful and deeply personal way for Albertans to come together, honouring loved ones, friends, colleagues, and neighbours who are facing or have faced cancer.
Alongside individual fundraising efforts, the Tour Alberta for Cancer also attracts significant corporate support from across the province, including from long-standing partner Enbridge, which has served as title sponsor since 2010. This year the company has entered a team of 158 cyclists, collectively raising more than $850,000 to support the Alberta Cancer Foundation’s vital work.
“Enbridge has been the proud title sponsor of the Tour for over fifteen years because we’ve seen the profound impact it has on people’s lives; the funds raised at this event help improve outlooks and outcomes for cancer patients all across Alberta,” says Max Chan, Senior Vice President Operations and Engineering, Liquids Pipelines at Enbridge and Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. “I ride as a survivor, and for everyone still facing that fight. What keeps me coming back is the amazing community and powerful sense of hope that stems from this event.”
Over its history, the Enbridge Tour Alberta for Cancer has raised more than $110 million to improve cancer care in Alberta. Dalziel says he’s inspired to witness firsthand what makes it one of Alberta’s largest and most successful fundraising events.
“It feels good to be on this purpose driven cause, not just for my own cancer journey, but for everyone impacted by this disease. This ride is my way of giving back, moving forward, and proving that even in the middle of cancer, strength still rises.”
A media kit (available here) with event photos, b-roll and interviews with participants from across Alberta will be updated throughout the weekend and available on demand for media use.
