Volunteer Spotlight: Tom Crist and Kham Lin

For Tom Crist and Kham Lin, donating their time and money to causes close to their heart, including supporting cancer patients, feels like a meaningful and practical way to give back.

Over the years, Tom and Kham have been actively involved with the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Since 2017, they have served as co-chairs of the Annual Alberta Cancer Foundation Golf Classic. To date, the event has raised nearly $1.3 Million for patient support programs including our Patient Navigator Program and Patient Financial Assistance Program.

Knowing that he’s helping make the lives of those facing cancer just a little better makes all the difference for Kham. “Cancer affects all of us. The Golf Classic is such a great way to help those in need, and knowing that our work makes an impact – like a ray of hope – in their lives is what motivates me,” he says.

Tom’s connection to cancer is personal. He lost his wife, Janice E. Crist, to cancer in 2012 and has been supporting the Alberta Cancer Foundation since. “I’ve learned how important the Alberta Cancer Foundation plays in helping families affected by this disease. Just knowing the money we raise is helping to support the many various programs within the Foundation is what keeps me coming back,” he says.

Tom and Kham have both made a tremendous impact as passionate advocates of the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Together they have helped build capacity through influential additions to the committee, helping the event raise $370,000 in net revenue in 2021 and securing cash and in-kind partners. Tom and Kham are integral in supporting the Foundation in more significant logistical decisions to enhance the overall event.

“Without the support of Kham and Tom, the Alberta Cancer Foundation Golf Classic or the Foundation as a whole would not be where it is today. They are both incredibly passionate and truly want to make a difference in the lives of others,” says Michelle Pitt, Community Relations Development Officer for the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

Thank you, Tom and Kham, for all you do to give back to Albertans facing cancer.
